Prompt engineering basics
Turn a fictional meeting note into an evidence-backed task table without inventing missing details.
Your output is a three-row task table and a separate list of unresolved questions. Allow approximately 20–30 minutes. Reading requires no AI Lab account; sign in only to save progress. Use an existing assistant account for the exercise. No API key, payment or real customer information is needed. English exercise files are linked in the steps.
Examine the input and target
Read the fictional meeting note. Identify who is explicitly assigned to do what and by which date. There are three assigned tasks. A logo change has not been decided, and the newsletter lacks an owner and date. Use those distinctions as your checks.
Define the output contract
Use four columns: Task, Owner, Due date and Evidence. Choose YYYY-MM-DD for dates. Instruct the assistant to leave missing information unresolved rather than adding a person or date.
Make your first attempt
Paste the prompt into your assistant. Replace the bracketed section with the complete meeting note. Save the output in a text file. You can paste the text directly; uploading a file is optional.
Check the evidence and correct mistakes
Does the table contain three tasks, the correct owners and the September 21, 22 and 23 dates? Is every supporting quotation present in the note? Reject invented tasks or a newsletter deadline. Point out the unsupported row and ask for a correction. If you hit a usage limit, keep your prompt locally and continue later.
Keep your reusable template
Save the input, prompt, first output, correction and final output together. Try a second fictional note with the same rules. Success means three correct tasks, no invented people or dates, evidence present in the input and unresolved questions listed separately. Share only fictional examples; do not post personal information in the forum.
